What is Yoga?

First, we should perhaps explain what is not Yoga. In the West we tend to think that yoga is about postures, physical exercises designed to improve our body. Some would even go as far as suggesting that the mind can be controlled through the body. But true Yoga is more than that; it is a philosophy of living, a path towards understanding who we really are.

These postures and breathing exercises are intended to balance our body and keep it healthy in order to strengthen our physical and nervous systems and therefore accumulate the energy which is generated. We can only have a calm mind within a relaxed body that is free of impurities.

Yoga is excellence and simplicity in life.

It is the science of complete physical and mental development, with the aim of enriching the true Self, from a healthy body and mind. Yoga provides the roots for life, so it may take what it needs to live, grow and flourish.

Yoga is a philosophy of existence, a progressive series of disciplines that purify both mind and body. With time it will allow us to reach deep inside ourselves, finally achieving inner peace, self realization and self sufficiency.

The master teaches each student the appropriate exercises according to age, temperament, nature and physical fitness.
